Help Get the Word Out
About changes to kids' health programs
As we've reported, the final state budget eliminated Healthy Families, a program providing affordable health, dental and vision coverage to nearly 900,000 California children. These children will be moved into the state's Medi-Cal insurance program eventually and will continue to be covered by Healthy Families until then. The state's plan for moving those covered by Healthy Families into Medi-Cal will be presented to the Legislature in October 2012. We have already met with state officials as they begin to draft the plan, and will scrutinize the critical details of the final plan to ensure kids will have sufficient access to the health care services they need.
In the meantime, we want to make sure parents with children in Healthy Families understand they still have coverage and are aware of the upcoming changes. You can help get the word out to these parents by distributing the following informational flyers through your networks. Please consider emailing them, including them in your newsletters, and posting them in schools, churches, community centers, clinics, and elsewhere.
